Finca Hoyo Frío is one of those coffees that becomes a talking point at cuppings because it stands out so clearly from the others. Even weeks later, you still remember its unusual flavour profile. Its notes of ripe peach and apricot are so pronounced that they give the coffee an unmistakable character. As a filter coffee, there is also an unusually soft, almost cooling mouthfeel that makes it particularly refreshing.

The intensity of these aromas surprised me even before the coffee went into the roaster. When I opened the freshly delivered bag of green coffee, the aroma of peach was already clearly noticeable. After roasting, that same impression carries through into the cup: in the aroma, in the taste and in the lingering finish.

Roast Level

Light Roast Medium Dark Roast

Flavour Profile

Chocolatey / Nutty Balanced Floral / Fruity
Distinctly fruity profile with clear notes of ripe peach and apricot. On the palate, the coffee feels pleasantly soft and develops a distinctive freshness that almost gives a cooling sensation, even when enjoyed hot.

Best suited for

As a pour-over, the intense notes of peach and apricot come through particularly clearly. It also works beautifully as a filter over ice. The cold preparation brings out its juicy sweetness and ripe stone fruit character particularly well.

The Coffee Producer

Café de la Torre AUS

Behind Finca Hoyo Frío in Curití, Santander, is the Torres family. They grow coffee on around ten hectares, with Félix Morantes working alongside the pickers on the farm during harvest. His son, Félix Jr., established the direct connection to international roasters. His original goal was to secure better prices for his father’s coffee. This eventually developed into a direct export business, which began in 2014 with the first tonne of green coffee shipped to Australia. Today, the family also helps other producers from Santander sell their coffees directly to roasters abroad.
