Kaffee Erlebnis Schweiz (German only)

"Coffee Experience Switzerland" delves into the culture of specialty coffee, a movement that understands coffee from bean to cup as a true product of enjoyment. While cities like Melbourne, Berlin, and New York have long been passionate about it, a vibrant scene is also emerging in Switzerland. The book portrays the people shaping this change and shows how they are redefining the coffee experience.

The portraits

Who makes the coffee

Olympia Express has been building espresso machines by hand for decades. The portrait in the book takes you into a workshop where every machine still passes through the same hands.

Alongside it are roasters, cafés and baristas from all over Switzerland. Businesses that rarely make the papers and still set the standard.

The pictures

Photographed by Roberto Nappi

The photographs are by Roberto Nappi (on the right in the photo). He works as a barista in Zurich himself, currently at Miró. His pictures were taken where coffee is really made: in roasteries, behind counters, in workshops.

At 21 × 27 centimetres and 220 pages there is enough room for the pictures to make their impact without short-changing the text.

The photo with Joscha Gewinner was taken at the book launch at Miró. Photo: Urs Bolz (AS Verlag).
